1. resting on opinion, probable, generally admitted, ἔ. τὰ δοκοῦντα πᾶσιν ἢ τοῖς πλείστοις ἢ τοῖς σοφοῖς, opp. to what is necessarily true (τὰ πρῶτα καὶ ἀληθῆ), Arist. Top. 100b21, cf. EN 1145b5, Rh. 1355a17, al.; ἡ ἔ. διδασκαλία popular teaching, Gal. 2.247.

ἔνδοξον (δόξα), held in good or in great esteem, of high repute;

a. illustrious, honorable, esteemed (Xenophon, Plato, and following): 1Co 4:10 (thus in the Sept. for נִכְבָּד, 1Sa 9:6; 1Sa 22:14; Isa 23:8, etc.; Sir. 11:6 Sir. 44:1, etc.).

b. notable, glorious: τά ἔνδοξα, wonderful deeds (A. V. glorious things), Luk 13:17; (for נִפְלָאות, Exo 34:10).

c. splendid: of clothing (A. V. gorgeous), Luk 7:25; figuratively equivalent to free from sin, Eph 5:27.
