2 the act of general, public, praise (compare also above especially [Psa 22:4]; [33:1]; [106:12]; [Neh 12:46]); — בִּת ׳חֲצֵרֹתָיו בְּתוֺדָה שְׁעָרָיו בּאֹוּ [Psa 100:4] enter his gates with thanksgiving, his courts with praise; חֲסִידִים בִּקְהִל תְּהִלָּתוֺ לי ׳שִׁירוּ חָדָשׁ שִׁיר Plalm [149:1]; compare [22:26]; [65:2]; [66:2]; [147:1]; before the army וּתְחִלָּה בְרִנָּה הֵחֵלּוּ[2Chr 20:22]; in exhortation to the peoples תְּהִלָּתוֺ קוֺל הַשְׁמִיעוּ [Psa 66:8] (|| אֱלֹהֵינוּ עַמִּים בָּֽרֲכוּ), compare [Isa 42:12].
3 praise-song, as title, לְדָוִד תְּהִלָּה [Psa 145:1] (so Late Hebrew תהלות ספר & תִּילִּים תְּהִלִּים,, = Psalms).
4 qualities, deeds, etc., of ׳י, demanding praise: — תְהִלֹּת נוֺרָא [Exod 15:11] (song), i.e. terrible in attributes that call for praise (|| בַּקֹּדֶשׁ נֶאְדָּר & פֶלֶא עשֵֹׁה); often (both singular and plural) of Yahweh's deeds with verb סִמֵּר [Psa 9:15]; [78:4]; [79:13]; [Isa 43:21], also + י ׳שֵׁם [Psa 102:22]; with יַשְׁמִיעַ [106:2] (|| י גְּבוּרוֺת ׳יְמַלֵּל); + צִדְקֶ֑ךָ with יֶהְגֶּה [35:28]; with יְבַשֵּׂ֑רוּ [Isa 60:6]; + י ׳חַסְדֵי, with אַזְכִּיר [63:7]; vid also בִּתְהִלָּתֶ֑ךָ לְהִשְׁתַּבֵחַ קָדְשֶׁ֑ךָ לְשֵׁם לְהֹדוֺת [Psa 106:47] = [1Chr 16:35] to give thanks unto thy holy name, to glory in thy praises (= praiseworthy deeds).
5 renown, fame, glory:
a. of Damascus תְּהִלָּ֑ה֯ עִיר [Jer 49:25] (on Qr תְּהִלָּ֑ת see Hi Ges§ 80. 2 b); compare perhaps תְהִלָּה מַעֲטֵה [Isa 61:3] mantle of renown (renown as a mantle, compare De VB; > Di splendid garment; but Bi Che Du read אֵ֔בֶל מַעֲטֵה and translate ׳ת praise, song of praise, compare 1. 2).
b. of וּת הוֺדוֺ שָׁמַים ׳כִּסָּה הָאָרֶץ מָֽלְאָה ׳י, [Hab 3:3] his splendour hath covered (the) heavens, and of his renown the earth is full. Also
