ᾠδῆς, ἡ (equivalent to ἀοιδή, from ἀείδω, i. e. ᾄδω, to sing), from Sophocles and Euripides down, the Sept. for שִׁיר and שִׁירָה, a song, lay, ode; in the Scriptures a song in praise of God or Christ: Rev 5:9; Rev 14:3; Μωϋσέως καί τοῦ ἀρνίου, the song which Moses and Christ taught them to sing, Rev 15:3; plural with the epithet πνευματικαι, Eph 5:19 (here Lachmann brackets πνευματικαῖς); Col 3:16.
