(Diodorus, Strabo, Plutarch, others; for נֵס, a standard, [Isa 5:26]; [Isa 49:22]; [Isa 62:10].) The word is condemned by Phrynichus, edition Lob., p. 418, who remarks that Menander was the first to use it; cf. Sturz, De dial. Maced. et Alex., p. 196.
