1. take off, strip off, c. dupl. acc. pers. et rei, ἐκ μέν με χλαῖναν ἔδυσαν they stripped me of my cloak, Od. 14.341; ἐκδύων ἐμὲ..ἐσθῆτα A. Ag. 1269; ἐκδύσας αὐτὸν [τὸν χιτῶνα] X. Cyr. 1.3.17: c. acc. only, strip, πάντας ἐ. D. 24.204; ἐξέδυσαν [ἐκεῖνον] Id. 54.8.

Med., ἐκδύομαι, Cret. ἐσδ- GDI 5100, fut. -δύσομαι: aor. 1 ἐξεδυσάμην: - strip oneself of a thing, put off, τεύχεά τ’ ἐξεδύοντο they were putting off their armour, Il. 3.114; ἐκδύσασθαι (leg. -δύσεσθαι) τὸν κιθῶνα Hdt. 5.106; ἐκδεδύσθαι θοἰμάτιον D. 54.35; θηρία ἐκδύεται τὸ ἄγριον Plu. : 1 aorist ἐξεδυσα; 1 aorist middle ἐξεδυσάμην; (δύω); to take off: τινα, to strip one of his garments, [Mat 27:28] (L WH marginal reading ἐνδυς.); [Luk 10:30]; τινα τί (as in Greek from Homer down) (a thing from a person): [Mat 27:31]; [Mar 15:20]; middle, to take off from oneself, to put off one's raiment (Xenophon, Ag. 1, 28; Hell. 3, 4, 19); figuratively, to put off the body, the clothing of the soul (A. V. be unclothed): [2Co 5:4]; the reading ἐκδυσάμενοι, adopted in [2Co 5:3] by certain critics (e. g. Mill, Tdf. 7, Reiche, others), is due to a correction by the copyists; see γυμνός, 1 d. (Compare: ἀπεκδύομαι.)
