עֵ֫קֶב noun [masculine] consequence, usually as
adverb accusative as a consequence of, because (that) also reward, end (see below עָקַב; and cf, heel figurative consequence, result); —
1 [Isa 5:23] שֹׁחַד עֵקֶב רָשָׁע מַצְדִּיקֵי (adverb accusative) in consequence of a bribe. [Psa 40:16] (= [70:4]) בָּשְׁתָּם עֵקֶב על (pleon.) according to the consequence of their shame, i.e. in consequence of the disgrace falling upon them. Hence as
conjunction אֲשֶׁר עֵקֶב as a consequence of (the fact) that, because, [Gen 22:18] ע ׳בְּקֹלִי שָׁמַעְתָּ אֲשֶׁר [26:5]; [2Sam 12:6]; so כִּי עֵקֶב [12:10]; [Amos 4:12] ׳ע לך אעשׂה זאת כִּי; עֵקֶב alone, [Num 14:24], and (followed by imperfect) [Deut 7:12] ׳ע תשׁמעון in consequence of your hearkening, etc., [8:20].
2 consequence = gain, reward, [Psa 19:12] רָב עֵקֶב בְּשָׁמְרָם, [Prov 22:4] י (וְ)יִרְאַת עֲנָוָה ׳עֵקֶב וגו ׳עשֶׁר.
3 end (of time), adverb accusative, [Psa 119:33] ע ׳וְאֶצֳּרֶנָּה to the end, [119:112] ׳ע לְעוֺלָם (compare Ecclus 16:3; עִקְבָּא ᵑ7 (rare)).
