ὑποποδίου, τό (ὑπό and πούς), a footstool (Latinsuppedaneum): Mat 5:35; Act 7:49 (from Isa 66:1); Jam 2:3; τιθέναι τινα ὑποπόδιον τῶν ποδῶν τίνος, to make one the footstool of one's feet, i. e. to subject, reduce under one's power (a metaphorically, taken from the practice of conquerors who placed their feet on the necks of their conquered enemies): Mat 22:44 R G; Mar 12:36 (here WH ὑποκάτω τῶν ποδῶν); Luk 20:43; Act 2:35; Heb 1:13; Heb 10:13, after Psa 109:2.
