Vanicek, Fremdwörter, under the word)), a sandal, a sole made of wood or leather, covering the bottom of the foot and bound on with thongs: [Mar 6:9]; [Act 12:8]. (Herodotus, Josephus, Diodorus, Aelian, Herodian, others; for נַעַל in [Isa 20:2]; Judith 10:4 Judith 16:9. (In the Sept. and Josephus σανδάλιον and ὑπόδημα are used indiscriminately; cf.
