1. hospitality shown to a guest, entertainment, δώροισιν ἀμειψάμενος.. καὶ ξενίῃ ἀγαθῇ Od. 24.286; μείξεσθαι ξενίῃ ἠδ’ ἀγλαὰ δῶρα διδώσειν ib. 314; κατὰ ξεινίην hospitii causa, Hdt. 2.182; ἐπὶ ξενίαν ἐλθεῖν to come as a guest, Pi. N. 10.49; but, ἐπὶ ξενίαν καλεῖν, παρακαλεῖν, also ἐπὶ ξενίᾳ καλεῖσθαι, καλεῖν, prob. only as f.l. for ἐπὶ ξένια, v. ξένιος 1.2: in pl., Id. O. 4.17; ξενίαι καὶ φιλότητες And. 1.145; ἑτοίμαζέ μοι ξ.
