Remarks:
- LEB's license allows creation of diglot bible. LEB in this module is arranged in parallel reading with the text of BHS.
- LEB's license allows writing commentary on LEB. Commentary on individual words are worked out in the format of popup windows, without altering the text of LEB. Comments include lexical data and English glosses freely available in ETCBC database, as described above. The mapping between ETCBC data and LEB's words was worked out by Eliran Wong. There would be ongoing corrections regarding the mapping. Welcome reports of errors.

Annotations of clause analysis

- Adverbial Function (ADV): A constituent that represents when, where, how, or why of a proposition.
- Indirect Object Function (IO): A constituent that represents the intended recipient of the action of a proposition.
- Object Function (O): A constituent that represents the patient or goal of the action of a proposition.
- Second Object Function (O2): Some verbs take two objects. There are two main types. The first type involves two accusative objects in the Greek, an object of person (the first object) and an object of thing (the second object). For example, he will teach you (object of person) all things (object of thing). The second type also involves two accusative objects in the Greek, but the first is the direct object and the second is an object complement. The object complement predicates a description of the direct object (e.g., "king" is the object complement in "God appointed David as king").
- Subject Function (S): A constituent that represents the agent of typically transitive verbs and the single argument of intransitive verbs.
- Predicate Function (P): A constituent that makes an attribution or identification about the Subject of a verbless clause or a verbal clause with a verbal copula.
- Verbal Function (V): A constituent that represents the action/event of a proposition. In verbal clauses, this is the head of the clause, on which all other clause constituents depend.
- Verbal Copula Function (VC): A constituent that facilitates an attribution or identification about the Subject. Verbal copulas are commonly known as copula verbs or linking verbs. This typically corresponds to a “to be” verb in English, which indicates a relation between the Subject and the Predicate rather than any action/event.

The Revised Version (or English Revised Version) of the Bible is a late 19th-century British revision of the King James Version of 1611. The New Testament was published in 1881, the Old Testament in 1885, and the Apocrypha in 1894. The best known of the translation committee members were Brooke Foss Westcott and Fenton John Anthony Hort; their fiercest critic of that period was John William Burgon.

The stated aim of the RV's translators was "to adapt King James' version to the present state of the English language without changing the idiom and vocabulary," and "to adapt it to the present standard of Biblical scholarship." Further, it was to be "the best version possible in the nineteenth century, as King James' version was the best which could be made in the seventeenth century." To those ends, the Greek text used to translate the New Testament was believed by some to be of higher reliability than the Textus Receptus used for the KJV. The readings used were compiled from a different text of the Greek Testament by Edwin Palmer.

While the text of the translation itself is widely regarded as excessively literal and flat, the Revised Version is significant in the history of English Bible translation for many reasons. At the time of the RV's publication, the nearly 300-year old King James Version was still the only viable English Bible in Victorian England. The RV, therefore, is regarded as the forerunner of the entire modern translation tradition. Other important enhancements introduced in the RV include arrangement of the text into paragraphs, printing Old Testament poetry in indented poetic lines (rather than as prose), and the inclusion of marginal notes to alert the reader to variations in wording in ancient manuscripts.

Info taken from wikidepida: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Revised_Version In the United States, the RV was adapted as the Revised Version, Standard American Edition (better known as the American Standard Version) in 1901. It is largely identical to it, the most readily noticeable difference being the use of the word Jehovah rather than the traditional "the LORD" to represent the Divine Name, the Tetragrammaton.

This is the 1769 King James Version of the Holy Bible (also known as the Authorized Version) with the words of Jesus Christ in red.
Electronic copy of KJV is in public domain.

The Septuagint with Apocrypha, translated from Greek to English by Sir Lancelot C. L. Brenton and published in 1885, with some language updates (American English)

Public Domain
Language: English
Dialect (if applicable): American
Language in English: English
Translation by:
Sir Lancelot Charles Lee Brenton

LXX2012: Septuagint in English 2012

This is a translation of the Old Testament and Apocrypha/Deuterocanon from Hebrew to Greek to 19th Century British English, with some updates of spelling and word usage to contemporary American English. The original English translation was done by Sir Lancelot Charles Lee Brenton and published by Samuel Bagster & Sons, Ltd., in London in 1851. It has entered the Public Domain due to the passage of sufficient time. In the process of scanning and typing the text, the original poetry and prose formatting, as well as peripheral material like introductions and notes, have been omitted.

This edition of the Septuagint has some language updates. Brenton's word order and punctuation has been mostly retained, meaning that quotation marks are not used, and sentences within quotes may not start with capital letters, as was standard usage in 1851. Names transliterated from Greek to those transliterated from Hebrew in the common English Bibles often differ. These language updates are dedicated to the Public Domain by the author of those edits, Michael Paul Johnson. Therefore this edition may be freely copied, published, etc.

Before considering making changes to the text of this work, I recommend that you consult with God, because this is really His Book.

If you find errors in the text, please report them so that we can correct them.

The World English Bible

The World English Bible is not copyrighted, however "World English Bible" is a Trademark.

You may copy, publish, proclaim, distribute, redistribute, sell, give away, quote, memorize, read publicly, broadcast, transmit, share, back up, post on the Internet, print, reproduce, preach, teach from, and use the World English Bible as much as you want, and others may also do so. All we ask is that if you CHANGE the actual text of the World English Bible in any way, other than changing from American to British spelling or vice versa, you not call the result the World English Bible any more. This is to avoid confusion, not to limit your freedom. The Holy Bible is God's Word. It belongs to God. He gave it to us freely, and we who have worked on this translation freely give it to you by dedicating it to the Public Domain.

Donations to help with the expenses of this project and thus help others have free access to the Word of God may be made to us, but are not required. Please see http://MLJohnson.org/partner/ for more about that.

The World English Bible is a work in progress. All Old Testament and New Testament books are essentially done, but well-justified typo reports and translation suggestions will still be considered. Editing work continues on the companion Apocrypha/Deuterocanon/Psuedepigrapha books, mostly in the form of slight updates to language and punctuation, but the meaning should be correct as those books read now. In the companion Apocrypha/Deuterocanon of the World English Bible, Tobit, Judith, Esther (Greek), Psalm 151, Daniel (Greek), and Wisdom are essentially done. The rest of the Apocrypha/Deuterocanon/Pseudepigrapha books are an automated update of those books from the Revised Version or copied from the LXX2012: Septuagint in English 2012, depending on the book. These should be at least as accurate as the source translations, but not as polished in modern English usage as the rest of the World English Bible. New updates will be posted on http://eBible.org/web/ and at http://WorldEnglishBible.org.

Jerome's A.D. 405 Biblia Sacra Vulgata Latina (Latin Vulgate)

Source: http://unbound.biola.edu/

This module contains the text of the Vulgate Clementine, that is, the Latin version of the Holy Scriptures made originally by Saint Jerome, according the major revision and standardization made under Pope Sixtus V and printed in 1598 under Pope Clement VIII.

This text contains punctuation marks, such as periods, commas, question marks, parenthesis and so on - which are not a part both of the original texts of Scriptures as well of Saint Jerome's translation. They are also part of the Clementine revision. However, for most readers, the understanding is much easier with them, as we have in every Bible version in modern languages.

This revision is until nowadays - for Roman-Catholics - the officially recognized version of the Latin Rite and contains the only authorized text of the Vulgate.

Therefore, this version includes the so-called "Gallican Psalter", that is, Saint Jerome's second version of the Book of Psalms made directly from the Greek Septuaginta. Although the general principle followed by Saint Jerome - regarding the Old Testament - was the primacy of the Hebrew text, his Hebrew version of the Psalter never enjoyed practical or liturgical use anywhere.

We will not approach the issue about how much Saint Jerome relied more upon Greek or Hebrew on the Old Testament, since there are fervent proponents of both hypothesis. However, we give here for reference some historical background on the three Jerome's Latin versions of the Psalter.

REGARDING THE "GALLICAN PSALTER"

St. Jerome was responsible for three versions of the Psalms, at all. His first recension was made upon the old Latin version in use at that time, a very defficient one - the "Vetus Itala". He compared it with the Greek of the Septuagint, and issued his corrections, which were accepted and passed into use, especially in Italy, becoming know as the "Romana version". After a brief time, however, St. Jerome found that the corrections he had made were not adequate, and he made a second recension with further corrections from the Greek, which subsquently was taken up in France, and was the version most in use in Gaul, etc., and became known as the "Gallicana". Gradually this recension superseded the "Romana version", which, however, remained in use in Rome for a considerable time, and at the present day is still used in the Divine Office chanted at St. Peter's. The "Romana version" was that which St. Augustine of Canterbury, coming as he did from Rome, brought with him to England, and it apparently remained the common version in that country until the Norman conquest.

The two versions thus made by St. Jerome by corrections of the old Latin in view of the Greek naturally contain much that is the same.

The third version made by St. Jerome at a later period of his life was translated directly from the Hebrew. Although St. Jerome considered that this version really represented the true sense of the Psalmist, it was never accepted by the Roman-Catholic Church for practical use. It is to be found in some Bibles, especially of Spanish origin, either as an addition to the usual "Gallicana version", or in place of it. It seems that this is due mostly to the extensive liturgical use of the Psalter - the Psalms were the most significant part of hymnology in that times - sung or recited both in communitary as well in private prayer - and so, any radical change in meaning as well in meters would be difficult to be received anywhere.

REGARDING THE TEXT

This electronic module for theWord has been compiled from the modules for VulSearch 4.2 (site: http://vulsearch.sf.net; email: little.mouth@soon.com) a software focused on the Latin Vulgate with many interesting features, such as a Latin dictionary add-on adapted from William Whitaker Words and also an accentuation routine by Bertrand Michelet - it may display Latin text with accents. Their original tags for line breaks or paragraphs have been maintained as far as possible - with the exception of the indenting tags, which were beyond our capability to properly convert. We added on our own the red and bold formatting on Psalm titles, as well on the Hebrew alphabetic heads of some verses.

The text itself of the Clementine Vulgate - used by VulSearch - has been edited by the Clementine Text Project, with the following contributors:

Mila Bozovic, Marjorie Burghart, Ron Conte, Michael Dubiaga, Seán Finnegan, Alundis Insensate, Edward Kotski, Bertrand Michelet, Michael Morbach, Richard Urquhart, Andreja Vasiljevic and Edgard Vreuls.

The electronic version of VulSearch has been created by little.mouth@soon.com, based on Colunga-Turrado 1947 and Vercellone 1861 (full information on the text from http://vulsearch.sf.net/gettext.html)
